NBA STREET

JULY - 14 - 2001

Could this be yet another masterpiece from the creators of SSX ?

Developer - EA Big

Release Date - Out Now

EA Big are the creators of still one of the best PS2 game, SSX.

NBA Street is a basketball game that's actually fun to play and no ... it's not just another NBA Jam.

GAMEPLAY

This game is as much fun as SSX is. You can play it on one-player mode or challenge one of your friends on two-player mode. The teams are made up of tree players and the games are played up to 21 points, but you must have an advantage of 2 points, so the game can go much further then just up to 21 points. A normal score (from inside the 3-point line) is worth 2 points and from outside the 3-point line their worth 2 points. As I said before, this game is really fun and it also gives you many reasons to play it. In NBA Street you can unlock teams, players, get new players, new courts, unlock cheats (eg. team uniforms, casual uniforms, different balls) and it also lets you collect points which allow you to create your very own player. So it should take you many hours of gameplay to unlock everything.

Unlike most sports games NBA Street is fun when you have the ball as well as when you defend. Player can perform tricks and moves out of this world and on the defense you can make unbelievable blocks. You also have to perform tricks (using shoulder buttons and square ... just like in SSX), but it doesn't just look good, it also gives you valuable points which fill up your BOOST energy bar, which when full, it enables the GAMEBREAKER, and makes your team go crazy and really increases your effectiveness, but what's more, if you score 1 point while in GAMEBREAKER MODE it adds one point to you score and takes one away from your opponent. And if you score for two, it adds 2 points to your team and takes 2 away from the other team. This can really turn the game around.

GRAPHICS

The graphics are very nice and well detailed. The courts look real and some even have rubbish floating around them. The backgrounds don't look as good as in some other games but they're nothing you could complain about, and finally the player models are also great with good facial expressions and realistic moves.

COMMENTS

This is a great game which is worth a look, and will give you many hours of fun. Is it better then SSX? ... It comes really close but it's not better then SSX. But to be honest ... I don't see how any basketball game could even come close to being as good as SSX.

Presentation

Good menus and great presentation overall, but the load times are a bit slow at times ... and it freezed on me once :-(

6.5

Graphics

Really good graphics.

7.5

Sound

Good music but the commentator can get really annoying at times.

"Ladies and Gentleman, Michael  Jordan is back". I've hears this way too many times, and the commentator is the only reason for this getting such a low score.

6.5

Gameplay

Let's just hope EA Big keeps it up.

8.0

Lastability

The day I got it, me and my brother played it until 4:00am at night ... but it you may want to have a few days of a break if you play it too much and get bored of it. Then just come back to it, and it should be fun again.
